Turn your data center into Efficiency Central.

GSOC

GSOC sees across-the-board savings with new
storage architecture.
Georgia System Operations Corporation (GSOC) is an electric utility with a constantly growing data environment — everything from file shares to Oracle data. But the organization’s tape backup infrastructure showed serious signs of strain. Nightly backups took over 24 hours to complete and backup-related downtime began eating into production cycles.

GSOC’s technology managers turned to Datalink for help designing and implementing a three-tier data protection architecture: A primary NetApp Fabric-Attached Storage (FAS) system to hold production data and backup snapshots, a secondary NetApp FAS for local backup replication, and a third, off-site FAS to receive daily async replication of backup data from the secondary system.

The GSOC team soon realized that their backup overhaul was streamlining virtually every part of the data center. They achieved vast improvements in service levels for data protection and disaster recovery. And the shared storage investment continued to pay off as GSOC implemented server virtualization and other more efficient technologies.
